 95% of PARENTS CLAIM
 TO TALK TO THEIR KIDS
ABOUT ALCOHOL. DO YOU?

Perception vs. Reality

My TOWN Coalition took a community survey in Hoquiam, Washington, asking parents whether or not they have conversations with their child about addictive substances. 95% of participants said yes, they did. But after taking a poll at the Hoquiam high school, 60% of students said their parents had not talked to them about the issue or that they couldn't remember.

Who's Telling the Truth?

We don't think anyone is lying, but perhaps parents aren't communicating in a way the child understands or relates to. Perhaps there are other hidden issues preventing parents from playing an active role in the matter of adolescent substance abuse. Other times, children just need to be approached about the issue more than once. Whatever the case may be, we are here to provide resources, education, and encouragement to parents and the community.
